Second deployment of remOcean floats in the Austral Ocean: Kerguelen Plateau
Six remOcean floats have been successfully deployed by Grigor Obolensky as part of the OISO cruise onboard Research Vessel Marion Dufresne II.
The deployments were performed by lots of two floats in three-contrasted zone of the Kerguelen area. The objective here is, beside the overall contribution to Southern Ocean observations, to address specifically the variety of phytoplankton production regime related to availability or unavailability of iron, a key element for phytoplankton growth. Note that these deployments will be followed, within two years, by additional deployment as part of the recently funded SOCLIM project, including the so-called PROVAL floats.
